This Friday, September 29th from 8:00-8:30am, in recognition of Orange Shirt Day, Darryl Laboucane will be at VSS drumming alongside some VSS students.  He will be outside between the bus loop and the front doors.  Please consider wearing orange or a button distributed by our Secwepemc language students.

On Orange Shirt Day, September 30th, we say "Every Child Matters". This is because we are remembering children like a young girl from Williams Lake who had her shiny new orange shirt taken away from her on the first day of school she was forced to attend. This day has become an opportunity to learn more about all aspects of residential schools as well as recognize the harm this residential system had on children’s sense of self-esteem and wellbeing. Today is an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.

More information and a video of Phyllis, the person whose orange shirt was taken away, please visit this website:  http://www.orangeshirtday.org
